On the last night of 2019, nearly 1,000 amateur astronomers gathered at the Beijing Planetarium to participate in the New Year's Eve activity with the theme of "Embracing Stars in the Sky, Sharing Prosperous Birthday" hosted by the Center for Science Communication of BJAST and the Beijing Planetarium.

The opening ceremony started with the wonderful singing of the planetarium staff choir. Wang Li, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the BJAST, delivered an opening speech to start the popular science activity stunning in sight and sound on New Year's Eve in the planetarium.

The special activity "Curator Starry Night Show" attracted many amateur astronomers. Dr. Qi Rui, a senior astronomical popular science expert and vice-curator of the planetarium, led the audience to travel through the starry sky with Asia's most advanced planetarium to tell the audience the historical and cultural allusions about the stars. In the square, professional staff instructed amateur astronomers to observe the moon with telescopes. In the popular science theater, three wonderful popular science programs, "Blurred Star", "Meteorite Impacts and the Life" and "Fly to the Moon", were shown in turns. Abundant popular science activities such as rubbings of ancient astronomical maps, "Alien Welcome" and a tour of the planetarium were carried out simultaneously in the museum.

The New Year's Eve event was also on a live broadcast platform for 3 hours uninterrupted, and the live activity was released on microblogs and Tik Tok, which provided a brand-new online astronomical popular science experience for the vast number of amateur astronomers who cannot come to the scene.
