• Beijing Planetarium Led the Team to Participate in the 24th International Astronomy Olympiad and Achieved Excellent Results

  • From October 19 to 28, led by Zhang Ziping and Feng Chong of the Beijing Planetarium, a Chinese team with 6 outstanding middle school students selected by the China National Astronomy Olympiad went to Piatra Neamt, Romania, to participate in the 24th International Astronomy Olympiad. The competition is sponsored by the Euro-Asian Astronomical Society's International Astronomy Olympiad Coordinating Committee, with 99 athletes, more than 40 team leaders and observers from 20 countries and regions participating.

    The International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO), the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) and the Asian-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad (APAO) are recognized as the three major international astronomy Olympiad with the longest history. Over the years, the Beijing Planetarium, as the only authorized unit in China, has organized teams to participate in various international middle school students' astronomy competitions, and the selected players have achieved many successes in international competitions.

    After fierce competition in astronomical theory, observation and actual measurement, the Chinese team won 3 silver medals and 3 copper medals.
