• Beijing Planetarium Held the 27th International Astronomy Olympiad Successfully

    The 27th International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) was successfully concluded in Beijing, China. The competition officially kicked off on November 7, with a total of 53 players and 20 team leaders and observers from 9 countries, including Bulgaria, Italy, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Vietnam and China. It was hosted by the Eurasian Astronomical Society and the Beijing Planetarium, and received strong support and guidance from the Chinese Astronomical Society, the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology and other units and relevant leaders.

    After three rounds of intense competition, a total of 5 players won the gold medal, 12 players won the silver medal, and 19 players won the bronze medal. The Chinese team performed outstandingly, winning 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.

    Undertaking the National Astronomical Knowledge Contest for middle school students and participating in and holding the International Astronomy Olympiad are important astronomical science popularization activities among young people for the Beijing Planetarium, as well as an important channel and means for the cultivation of outstanding astronomical talents in China. Over the past 20 years, groups of outstanding young people have grown up and embarked on jobs in astronomical research and science popularization, proving the work related to the astronomical competition fruitful.
