  • On March 27, the handover ceremony of confiscated fossils and paleontological products from Beijing Customs to Beijing Museum of Natural History was held at the Nature Museum. Fang Li, secretary of the party Committee of Beijing Academy of Science and Technology, Xu Fuhua, deputy director of Beijing Customs, Chen Yixin, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, and others attended. Beijing Customs and representatives of Museum of Natural History signed the handover documents on the spot, and Museum of Natural History issued a donation certificate to Beijing Customs.

A total of 76 confiscated items were handed over and displayed at the ceremony site. This batch of fossil origin comes from many areas in the country. At the handover ceremony, Chen Yixin, Xu Fuhua and Fang Li all spoke about the handover. Fang Li said that as a national first-class museum affiliated to BJAST, Museum of Natural History not only has a separate paleontological warehouse and related professional equipment, but also has professional capabilities in paleontological fossil repair, research, exhibition and popular science education. Museum of Natural History will certainly preserve and make good use of the fossils so that they can play an active role in paleontological research and popular science. After the handover ceremony, the relevant personnel attending the event watched the confiscated fossils and paleontological products handed over at the scene and visited a warehouse containing more than 300,000 specimens jointly invested by Hong Kong industrialist Mr. Tian Jiabing and the Beijing Municipal Government.

This handover of fossils and paleontological products is the first transfer between Beijing Customs and Beijing Museum of Natural History in accordance with Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Protection of Paleontological Fossils promulgated in 2012. The two sides said that they would form a standard for the transfer in the future and continue to strengthen cooperation in related fields, making efforts for the protection of fossils and living plants and the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
