  • On October 16, the Beijing Planetarium signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Rio Planetarium, and exchanged views on cooperation in the fields of popular science exhibitions, astronomical programs, live broadcast of astronomical phenomena, astronomical cultural creativity, and activity development.

Led by Everton da Conceição Gomes, an official of the Rio City of Labor, and Renan Uccelli Guedes Ferreira, the director of the Rio Planetarium, the team of Rio Planetarium arrived at the Beijing Planetarium. Zang Zhenyuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Beijing Planetarium, and Wang Xiaofeng, Director of the Beijing Planetarium, cordially received the visitors, and the two sides held a memorandum signing ceremony.

Zang Zhenyuan pointed out that this event opened the door to exchanges and interactions for the planetariums of China and Brazil, and the planning and organization of the Rio photo exhibition is a concrete implementation of deepening the friendship between the two countries in the field of astronomy, and hopes that in the future, the two sides can continue to strengthen cooperation in the field of scientific research and popular science, focusing on the real-time live broadcast of special astronomical phenomena, the effective output of exhibition items, astronomical cultural creativity, student research activities, etc., and continuously enhance the influence of science popularization.

Next year will witness the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, and the signing of the memorandum is even more significant at such a historical juncture. We believe that this exchange is an important opportunity to promote the two museums to dig deep into science popularization resources, strengthen cooperation and interaction on the basis of existing cooperation, and use the starry sky across the northern and southern hemispheres as a medium to jointly promote the science popularization work to write a new chapter.
